Effect of porosity and permeability on slope stability under the effect of rainfall
Keywords:
slope stability, rainfall intensity, permeability, porosity, earthen dams, unsaturated soilsAbstract
The main goal of this research is to carry out an analysis of the influence of rainfall on the stability of the slope downstream of a homogeneous earth dam, with a 15-meter embankment height and drainage at the foot of the slope. A sample of 10 unsaturated clayey soils was determined to form the embankment, and rains were applied for 12 and 24 hours, for return periods of 5, 10, 25 and 50 years. The behavior of the safety factor and the failure time are evaluated. In addition, the influence of porosity and permeability of soils on stability is determined.
