Abstract

This paper presents the geometric design of a deprimogenic flowmeter, which is formed from the obstruction created by partially intersecting, at a ninety-degree angle, a section of pipe with another of equal or greater diameter. This penetration between the two pipes leaves a surface in the pipe that will carry the flow, known in geometry as a saddle surface. To validate its function as a flowmeter, four possible designs are mathematically modeled using ANSYS CFD. The value of the permanent head loss introduced by each design is compared with the value of the losses introduced by a wedge flowmeter validated according to ISO 5167-6, due to its similar principle. The results obtained justify the viability of the proposed design as a flowmeter.
