Exploitation of the hydro-energy potential in an isolated mini-hydroelectric.

The paper presents a case study of a hydroelectric facility with water depletion problems. The objective was to evaluate the use of the available hydro-energy potential by applying an integrating methodology contributing to the improvement of energy efficiency and the use of water resources in the process of transforming hydraulic energy into electricity. The results demonstrate the existence of overconsumption of available water and oversizing of the mechanical transmission, both of which constitute operating problems. The solution to the problem, although simple, provided a methodology that integrates knowledge of fluid dynamics, hydraulic turbines, electrical machines and machine elements. The analyzed problem constitutes an integrating exercise for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the area of Hydroenergy and the rational use of water resources.
