Rain-runoff model for the Yanuncay river basin in Cuenca, Ecuador
Abstract
In the Yanuncay river that runs through the city of Cuenca, floods frequently occur due to the large discharge that flow through the river. The anticipated knowledge of these phenomena requires a detailed study of the rain-runoff relationship. In the present paper, the determination of this relationship was obtained through a calibration process with nine events (with maximum discharge contained in the range of 17, 1 to 101 m3 / s that occurred in two hydrometric stations) and a subsequent validation stage, with four new events, using for this the HEC-HMS program. The selected events for these stages allowed the process to be carried out, guaranteeing its representativeness for the flow interval with large return periods that could occur in the basin.
