In this paper, a comparison is made between the analytical model and the discrete model for the calculation of tank filling and/or emptying times in pumped source systems, for the three typical operation schemes that are presented in practice. Both calculation methodologies are compared for 22 variants covering the three typologies of design and operation in these systems, using for this purpose the MATLAB tool version R2024b. It is shown that the two procedures yield approximate values in most of the variants for the three cases of study, with the exception of when the characteristic coefficient of the conduction is zero. Analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of both models, it is concluded that the discrete method, which accurately represents the hydraulic phenomenon of the temporal simulation of the process, is the procedure that provides the most accurate solutions.
