Abstract

Climate change is the greatest environmental threat facing humanity; only vigorous and sustained action to reduce emissions can limit its scope. Wastewater treatment and disposal constitute a source of greenhouse gas emissions globally. This activity significantly influences the total emissions of Cuba, making it a key category in the National Inventory of Greenhouse Gases. Consequently, the objective of this study was to estimate the emissions produced by the treatment of domestic and industrial wastewater across the country (time series 1990-2022). The main finding was that the value of emissions in 2022 increased by 1.31% compared to the baseline year of 1990.
