Intensidad y persistencia de la sequía en SW de Guantánamo: uso de índices ISA e IPS

Abstract

Los valores altos y bajas frecuencias de lluvia de esta provincia se localizan en su porción suroccidental. Aquí se describen las condicionantes geográficas locales que determinan esto, se evalúa la intensidad y persistencia de la sequía meteorológica SM, como rasgos clave de severidad del fenómeno, a través del Índice Global de Sequía Anual ISA y del Índice de Persistencia de la Sequía IPS, ya aplicados en otras áreas del país; el IPS es un indicador único en su tipo. Ambos índices se usaron de modo combinado, según su metodología. El estudio se desarrolló entre 1982-2015. Ofrece una clasificación del grado de sequía anual por categoría, la secuencia y persistencia de años secos, y demuestra que en esta área la SM se hace severa, recurrente y que ha tenido aumento gradual.
